November 10-November 13This week in Virtual Art Class we started by reviewing important information from last week (schedule for the month and November art making options). Students learned more about how shape is used in art by looking at tessellations and mosaics as ways of making art. Students then learned about the technique of scumbling. This technique is something that they can use in their own work for the month, but it is not a requirement. No matter what, learning about art styles and techniques is a way to learn and grow as an artist. I then showed them how they could use some basic supplies to create a collagraph. I used a cereal box, corrugated cardboard, a paperclip, buttons and some scrapbooking supplies to make a printing plate. I then made a crayon rubbing of the plate on copy paper and used washable markers to create a watercolor effect. I used a robot as my subject matter, but other shape inspired images could be used. This is another way they could make art this month, but not required. This week, students should be starting to work on their project. Instructions for all students are similar, but are recorded by grade level: 3rd Grade:
4th Grade:
5th Grade:
Next week, I will be checking in to make sure students have at least started their project. They will have an opportunity to continue working, ask questions and get feedback. I will also assign their monthly assignment early in the week so that they can turn it in when it is ready. Gather up those supplies, get to making your art project, and I will see you again soon
