Our collaborative paper quilt is complete! This past week students worked on an interest survey during class so I recruited 5th grade classes with their assistance in looping masking tape. Each day the quilt went up little by little until it was complete. Starting from my storage room door all the way to my classroom door is 660 total pieces. There are still some extra pieces to put together in a mini quilt to hang right behind my door. I love the soft breaks in color and you can find something new, and even unexpected, each time you walk by. Pieces were reinforced with white glue also, so hopefully it won't need repairs.

For the first art project, all grades are working on a collaborative display that will hang outside of the art room. We are getting our inspiration from contemporary artist Corinne Sovey. To learn more about her work, check out her website here. Each day of the week used a different color scheme. Each student designed their own block (6 by 6 inch design on white paper, using one black and three colored pieces of paper). All blocks will then be assembled into one large paper quilt. All cutting, designing and gluing was completed and pieces are ready to hang next week. Stay tuned to see the finished product!
